The Story:

I had been wanting to shoot astrophotography at the Bonneville Salt Flats for forever, and I figured what better opportunity than to do it while showcasing a really freaking cool place to get married at. I found Liz & Rudy, who were thrilled to help me in my endeavor, by donning their wedding attire again and modeling for me at the salt flats.

The Location:

The Bonneville Salt Flats is an otherworldly location. It’s situated about 2 hours west of Salt Lake City, just off of Highway 80. There are essentially two parts to the flats, both publicly accessible. One is right next to the westbound rest area off of Highway 80, the other is at the Bonneville Salt Flats International Speedway, which is located just slightly northeast of Wendover and is an area of the salt flats that is marked out for motor sports. Fun fact: there are numerous land speed records that have been broken here, and the Bonneville Salt Flats Race Track is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It’s from this location that you can actually drive your vehicle onto the salt flats, of course not during racing events.

While this was just a styled shoot, you can get married at the salt flats! Since the land is managed by the Bureau of Land Management (BLM), you do need a permit from the BLM Salt Lake Field Office to hold an official wedding ceremony.
